Ottawa police seeking drivers with dashcams to help ID suspect in hijab-pulling incident

The Ottawa Police Service is looking for drivers with dashboard cameras who might have clearer images of a suspect wanted in connection with a hate-motivated assault last weekend.

A man allegedly used a racial slur, pulled a woman’s hijab and threw her umbrella at her on Woodridge Crescent, near the Bayshore Shopping Center, on Saturday, June 20, at around 3:53 p.m.

The woman was not physically harmed, police said. The suspect has yet to be identified.

On Thursday, police released an image of a man in connection with the incident and suggested that drivers who were in the area at the time might have a better picture.

“The image quality is limited, and investigators are asking anyone who was driving in the area around that time and may have dashcam footage to come forward, as it may have captured a clearer image,” police said in a news release.
