The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) says a U-Haul driver was stopped on Highway 417 in Ottawa following an alert from the cruiser’s Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) camera Thursday. The driver was stopped when police received an alert notifying the registered owner of the van was suspended, police say. That was when they found that the vehicle was uninsured, the OPP adds. Police “had to arrange travel for two young children in car seats that were in the vehicle,” the OPP said in a post on X. Upon conviction, the driver will be facing a $5,000 fine for driving an uninsured vehicle, and a $2,000 fine for driving while suspended.
