Ontario Provincial Police say two men from the GTA have been charged in connection with a suspected case of identity theft in eastern Ontario. Police said a bank in Petawawa called police at around 2 p.m. on Oct. 29 to report suspected fraudulent activity at their business. Police were given descriptions of the suspects and a last known direction of travel. Officers in Pembroke stopped a vehicle a short time later and arrested two people. “Police seized cash and several items consistent with identity and banking fraud offences,” the OPP said in a news release. The two men are each charged with fraud under $5,000, using a forged document, identity fraud, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and five counts of possession of another person’s identity information. Both men were released with a court date on Nov. 24.
