The St. Thomas Police Service is warning the community of a new phone scam that’s circulating. Police posted on social media, outlining the scam. They said it starts with a phone call from someone claiming to represent your cell phone provider. They offer you a better plan and phone. After a phone is shipped to your house, another call comes and they say the wrong phone was shipped. They will arrange someone to get the phone or give a shipping address, which is the scam. “The St. Thomas Police Service has received multiple reports involving people posing as various cell phone company representatives, scamming local residents here in St. Thomas,” said Samantha Wakefield, corporate communications coordinator for the STPS. “If this happens to you, stop. Before shipping the phone or handing it to anyone, contact your local provider directly using the number on your bill or on their official website.” STPS can be contacted at 519-631-1224.
