One person found dead following Napanee, Ont. housefire

Ontario Provincial Police say a man was found dead following a Saturday evening house fire in Napanee, Ont.

According to OPP, officers were called to a home fire on Switzerville Road shortly before 9:30 p.m. Firefighters were already on the scene battling the fire and people were trapped inside the building.

Police say the home had three residents, two of which have been accounted for.

A 59-year-old man jumped from a second-floor balcony to escape the blaze and was taken to the hospital in critical condition. A 34-year-old man also escaped from the home and police say he was not seriously injured.

A 65-year-old man is unaccounted for.

Police say firefighters located the remains of a man inside the building, and a postmortem exam is being conducted to confirm the identity.

The cause of the remains under investigation, and police ask anyone with information to contact Lennox and Addington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122, referring to incident E260172230.

Napanee is located approximately 40 kilometres west of Kingston, Ont.
