Multi-vehicle crash on Highway 417 sends 1 to hospital

One person was taken to hospital Monday evening following a crash on Highway 417.

It happened at around 6:35 p.m. in the westbound lanes near Bronson Avenue.

Ottawa Fire Services says several vehicles were involved, and one driver was trapped after airbags deployed.

Firefighters were able to safely extricate the driver and quickly had him out of his vehicle.

Ottawa paramedics say the man was transported to hospital in serious but stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.

In the meantime, firefighters spread absorbent on the highway to deal with leaking fluids from the vehicles.

Two right lanes and the right shoulder of Highway 417 near Bronson Avenue were closed as crews cleared the scene.
