Jury selected in Basil Borutski trial

Jury selection, triple murder trial to start Accused killer Basil Borutski, charged in the deaths of three Ottawa Valley women, remains silent as his trial is set to begin.

A jury comprised of seven women and five men has been selected in the Basil Borutski case.

The trial will now commence in an Ottawa courtoom  Wednesday, October, 4, 2017.

The 59-year-old Borutski is on trial for the September 2015 killings of Anastasia Kuzyk, Nathalie Warmerdam and Carol Culleton.

Since Bortuski refused to respond to any questions put to him by the court,  a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf.

There will be a vigil held at the Bonnechere Union Public Library in Eganville Tuesday evening. Vigil organizer and director of the Women’s Sexual Assault Centre of Renfrew County, JoAnne Brooks says two-years after the murders the community remains angry and heartbroken.

“The community would like this to be finished and over,” says Brooks, “we believe justice will be served.”

Brooks has also organized an Ottawa rally at the Human Rights Monument on Elgin Street, in the shadow of the Ottawa Courthouse, to speak out against violence against women.

The rally will be held at Noon on Thursday.

The group will travel by bus from the valley at these pick-up points Thursday morning:

·         Cobden: Shell Gas 9:20am

·         Renfrew: WalMart 9:40am

·         Arnprior: Antrim Truck Stop - coffee break - leave at 11:00am
