A man is dead and a woman is seriously injured after police say a truck entered a construction zone, causing a multi-vehicle collision in Lunenburg County. The RCMP and other emergency crews responded to the collision on Highway 103 in Clearland, N.S., around 3:30 p.m. Saturday. “Upon arrival, officers learned that a Dodge Ram travelling westbound entered a construction zone where traffic was stopped due to single-lane access controlled by temporary traffic lights,” said the RCMP in a news release Monday. “The Ram then collided with a Toyota RAV4 before striking a Jeep Cherokee. A fourth vehicle sustained minor damage.” The driver of the Toyota, a 65-year-old Ottawa man, died at the scene. His passenger, a 64-year-old Ottawa woman, sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to hospital. Police told CTV News there was no one working in the construction zone at the time and no other serious injuries were reported. They said the posted speed limit in the zone was 80 km/h. The RCMP said the investigation is ongoing. It is not known at this time whether the 26-year-old male driver of the Ram will face charges.
