Gatineau residents will soon notice some new branding on police vehicles and communications.

Gatineau police (SPVG) unveiled its new logo on Wednesday, featuring a stylized bird, and darker blue shield and gold-coloured borders.

Police say the new logo “evokes a humane, attentive police presence, as well as a commitment based on vigilance and trust.”

“This new logo represents much more than a visual change. It embodies the evolution of our organization, the values that drive us and our desire to remain close to the people we serve every day,” said SPVG director Simon Fournier in French-language news release.

The process of choosing the new logo was completed by an internal committee made up of both police and civilians and voted on by the members. The graphic design was created in-house.

Police say the new emblem will be deployed over the next five years and can already be seen on the service’s social media and website.

“The symbol also reflects the SPVG’s ability to anticipate, intervene and support its community on a daily basis. Finally, it reflects the image of a modern, agile and forward-looking organisation,” SPVG said.
