The federal government has announced $24 million through Build Canada Homes toward the creation of 60 rental homes for seniors, veterans and other vulnerable people in Kemptville, south of Ottawa. Carleton MP Bruce Fanjoy made the announcement Friday on behalf of federal housing minister Gregor Robertson. The government says the project will revitalize the Bell Hall building on the Kemptville Campus. The renovation will include shared spaces like a meeting room and kitchen, and each floor will also have seating areas to encourage socializing and interaction. “The renovation of Bell Hall will make a real difference for people here in Kemptville. With every project like this one, we’re getting closer to the country we want, one where everyone has a safe, affordable place to call home,” Fanjoy said in a news release. The municipality of North Grenville is spending an additional $4.75 million on the project. Renovations were approved last fall, with construction slated to be complete by the summer of 2027. North Grenville Mayor Nancy Peckford says this project will provide affordable homes for people who need stable housing close to services and supports. “By repurposing an existing building on the Kemptville Campus, we are creating a vibrant, inclusive community hub while making every public dollar go further for the people we serve,” she said. The project will provide a mixture of one-bedroom and two-bedroom units.
