Driver killed in crash at Calabogie, Ont. racetrack

A 45-year-old Ottawa man was killed in a crash at the Calabogie Motorsports Park on Sunday. CTV’s Katelyn Wilson reports.

A 45-year-old Ottawa man was killed in a crash during a racing school event at the racetrack in Calabogie, Ont. over the weekend.

Ontario Provincial Police say officers responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash at Calabogie Motorsports Park at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

“Renfrew OPP and the County of Renfrew Paramedic Service attended the scene,” the OPP said in a statement.

“The driver, and single occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

OPP East Region spokesperson Bill Dickson told CTV News Ottawa there were several vehicles on the track at the time of the crash.

“We learned that a vehicle, one of the cars on the track, had struck a guardrail and rolled over,” Dickson said Monday afternoon. “As a result of that, an individual that was in the car suffered very serious injuries.”

Police say no foul play is suspected in the death and the investigation is ongoing.

“We are deeply saddened to share that a participant passed away on May 4 while taking part in a racing school event at the track,” Calabogie Motorsport Park said in a statement to CTV News Ottawa. “Our heartfelt condolences go out to their family and friends during this difficult time.”

Officials with Calabogie Motorsport Park said the victim was well known to the club and this wasn’t his first time on the track.

The 2025 season kicked off this weekend at the racetrack.

According to the Calabogie Motorsports Park website, the Perry Performance/Calabogie Racing and Lapping Academy was holding a two-day race school this weekend at the track.

“We know that there were multiple vehicles on the track at the time, Dickson said. ”I don’t know whether it was an actual race or whether there was some training going on. This one vehicle did strike a guardrail and then roll over."

In 2023, a 70-year-old woman was killed in a motorcycle crash at the Calabogie racetrack. Police said her motorcycle crashed at the private racetrack.

Calabogie is located 100 km from downtown Ottawa.
