Downtown Kingston buildings damaged by fire

Two businesses in downtown Kingston were significantly damaged by fire Sunday night.

The City of Kingston says The Shuroop and A One Clothing on King Street East were affected by fire, smoke and water damage.

Kingston Fire and Rescue confirms no one was injured.

“Thank you to Kingston Fire & Rescue for a swift response. Please keep our business owners in your thoughts. All businesses in the downtown area, other than those in the area of the fire remain open for business during this crucial holiday shopping season,” the Downtown Kingston BIA said in a Facebook post.

“The community is encouraged to support downtown businesses during what is the busiest and most important time of the year for local retailers.”

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to the City of Kingston.
