Crane operator rescued by firefighters

Crane operator rescued by firefighters Crane drops load of lumber onto Wellington St. as operator suffers a medical condition. CTV's Megan Shaw reports.

Ottawa firefighters have rescued a crane operator on Wellington Street West after he suffered a medical emergency on Monday afternoon.

The incident happened around 3:15 p.m. The Ottawa Fire rope rescue team was able to guide paramedics up the crane so that they could assess the operator. Once he was stabilized, the team placed him into a basket and he was lowered down to the ground. He was taken to hospital in stable condition.

Lumber from the crane dropped onto the street below. Cars were damaged but no one was hurt.

Wellington Street West was closed for several hours, but it has since reopened to traffic.
