Chinook helicopter to fly over Beechwood Cemetery for 25th anniversary of National Military Cemetery

The Royal Canadian Air Force is planning a flyover on Thursday to mark the 25th anniversary of the National Military Cemetery in Ottawa.

The cemetery for the Canadian Armed Forces was established in 2001 at Beechwood Cemetery, east of downtown Ottawa. It contains four sections, honouring those who died on active service, whose death was related to service, or who served honourably and have chosen to rest among their peers.

An event to mark 25 years of the National Military Cemetery will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m.

The Department of National Defence (DND) says A CH-147F Chinook helicopter will conduct a flypast at around 11:15 a.m.

“The aircraft will operate at altitudes no less than 500 feet above the highest obstacle on its route. Flight activities may generate unfamiliar noise and attract the attention of local residents,” DND said in a news release.

“Royal Canadian Air Force flights are meticulously planned and closely monitored to ensure public safety, with operations contingent on weather and flying conditions.”

The National Military Cemetery is managed by the Canadian Armed Forces.
