Blair Turner is looking to run for the federal Conservative Party in the Ottawa-area riding of Carleton in the next federal election. Turner, an Ottawa-area police officer and former Conservative candidate in the riding of Ottawa South, announced on social media he is seeking the Conservative nomination to run in Carleton. “Carleton is my home. Our community has a voice that matters, and together we can make a difference,” Turner said. “We can have a brighter future! We can bring back the Canadian Dream!” Turner finished second to Liberal MP David McGuinty in the riding of Ottawa South in the last election. “For two decades, my mission has been to serve and protect the communities in which we live,” Turner said on social media. “As a police officer, I have seen firsthand the impact crime can have on communities. We need to create a social climate where crime is not seen as the only option for those who are struggling. Crime requires not just a municipal response, but the federal government creating a climate where laws are respected and enforced.” Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre represented the riding of Carleton for 20 years before losing to Liberal Bruce Fanjoy in last April’s federal election. Poilievre won a byelection in the Alberta riding of Battle River-Crowfoot. Poilievre has not said where he will run in the next federal election.
