A Norway-based company is providing new technology in an attempt to clean Edmonton’s high-rise windows in a safer manner. KTV Working Drone uses drones equipped with hoses to spray windows down with cleaning solutions and filtered water. The company says it’s able to switch between pressure-washing and soft-washing its targets. “We take all the particles out of the water, and as the water hits the window, it will collect the grime, dust and dirt that’s on the window and it waterfalls down with the filter. It dries clear,” KTV’s North America chief pilot, Adam Langlois, explained. He says the method is “much safer” than having workers hang from buildings and requires less equipment; and despite being sensitive to wind conditions, the tech is only getting “better and better.” The working drone was founded in Norway. Rights were established for North American use about five years ago. “It’s very efficient. (Building operators) like how quick we can get in and out. There’s less rental equipment that we need to use … It’s really good for getting inaccessible areas.” Overseas, Langlois says the tech is being used for spray painting and windmill cleaning, too.
