Seven residents have been displaced following a fire that broke out in a wall in a low-rise residential building in Gatineau, Que. Saturday morning, according to the local fire department. Firefighters say they received a call around 5:45 a.m. reporting a fire in a two-story building located at 168 Rue Fontaine. When crews arrived at the scene, they evacuated seven residents from the building, which has three units. They then extinguished the fire in the wall. The wall was partially destroyed and the estimated cost of damage is around $10,000, according to the fire department. No injuries were reported. Firefighters say investigation shows that someone was smoking a cigarette outside. That person threw the cigarette out when they were done near a window and close to a wall. The cigarette fell between the brick and the wall. Crews say it was an accident, and police are not involved in the investigation. The investigation into what led to the fire continues.
