2 rescued from Ottawa River after sailboat capsizes

Two people were rescued from the Ottawa River on Sunday after a sailboat overturned in the rapids.

The Ottawa Fire Services say a 911 caller reported the incident near the Britannia Yacht Club at approximately 3:45 p.m.

Water rescue teams on arrival found two people in the water going through the rapids who were unable to get out on their own.

A rescue team was launched and pulled both individuals from the water at about 4:05 p.m.

Ottawa paramedics say they were called to the scene but there were no injuries.

Officials have advised caution amid high water levels on the river this season.

On May 8, a two-year-old child died after being pulled from the Ottawa River.
