Woman faces impaired driving charges at Espanola RIDE check

Ontario Provincial Police said a 48-year-old woman from Nairn-Hyman Township was charged Monday evening during reduce impaired drivers everywhere (RIDE) check on Jacklin Road in Espanola.

Police said a grey sport utility vehicle was stopped at about 8 p.m. on May 25 and officers detected a strong odour of alcoholic beverage emanating from the driver’s breath and observed an open alcoholic beverage in the driver’s side door compartment.

“A roadside test registered a fail and the driver was subsequently arrested and brought back to detachment,” said OPP in a news release.

OPP charged the motorist with two impaired operation offences, including impaired operation with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

In addition to the charges, the woman’s SUV was towed and impounded and her driver’s license was suspended.

The accused was released with a scheduled court appearance on July 6.

Public reminder against impaired driving

The police service used the incident to emphasize the dangers of impaired driving and to ask for the public’s assistance in keeping roads safe.

“OPP remind motorists that no amount of alcohol or drug is acceptable to consume and drive,” said police.

“Should you observe a suspected impaired driver, please dial 911 or contact the Ontario Provincial Police.”
