Transport on Hwy. 11 in northern Ont. was unsafe, driver had suspended licence

A 30-year-old truck driver from Alberta and the Calgary company he works for are facing a slew of charges after being pulled over on Highway 11.

A commercial motor vehicle driver from Alberta and the company he works for are facing numerous charges after police stopped a transport truck on Highway 11 in Temagami.

Ontario Provincial Police stopped the vehicle for an inspection at 12:40 a.m. April 2

“Officers discovered several significant defects resulting in several charges on the driver and the operator,” police said in a news release Thursday.

Trucking company also charged

The 30-year-old driver from Rocky View, Alta., was charged with driving while suspended, failing to show his permit and insurance card, driving an unsafe vehicle, driving with defective brakes and improper tires, among several other related offences.

The company, based in Calgary, is also charged with numerous offences, including allowing an unlicensed driver to operate one of their vehicles, allowing the operation of an unsafe vehicle and failing to ensure performance standards are met, among other offences.

“Also, as a result of the defects, officers removed the annual inspection sticker, seized the licence plates and placed the CMV out of service,” police said.
