The terminated Laurentian University faculty committee says after five and half-years, the post secondary institution has taken no accountability for its actions. More than 200 faculty and staff positions were eliminated by the school within 69 days of filing for CCAA court protection. The comments come after severance cheques were issued to laid off faculty members this month. “Laurentian University will keep approximately 75% of the monies they took from former employees and creditors – money that terminated faculty had counted on to rebuild their careers and lives,” the committee said in a news release Monday. “The Auditor General’s report confirmed that millions were taken from Laurentian’s bank accounts, and over 5 years later we still don’t know where it all went.” The committee said the public has a right to know who is responsible for the millions of wasted dollars that drove Laurentian into financial crisis and the decision to enter insolvency. It’s now calling for a public inquiry to view all financial records and accounts. A request for comment on this statement by the terminated faculty committee was not returned by the university.
