A 46-year-old Thessalon resident is facing multiple charges following an Ontario Provincial Police reduce impaired driving everywhere (RIDE) check in town last week. According to police, officers were conducting the traffic enforcement initiative on Lakeside Drive at about 11:45 p.m. on Aug. 7, a green SUV entered the checkpoint. “During the investigation, officers determined that the driver was operating the vehicle while under suspension,” OPP said in a news release. Police said officers also found that the vehicle was not insured and was displaying unauthorized licence plates. As a result of the investigation, OPP said officers located and seized approximately 11 grams of suspected methamphetamine. Multiple charges laid The driver was arrested at the scene and the SUV was subsequently towed. The local man was charged with drug possession, driving while under suspension, operating a motor vehicle without insurance as the owner, use of a plate not authorized for a vehicle and operating an unsafe vehicle. The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in court in Elliot Lake on Oct. 14.
