Suspected drug traffickers on Hwy. 11 were stunt driving, vehicle reeked of cannabis

Three southern Ontario residents face drug trafficking charges after OPP stopped a vehicle for going 141 km/h on Highway 11 earlier this fall.

Police say three people from southern Ontario have been charged after an early morning stop for stunt driving on Highway 11 near Kirkland Lake.

Ontario Provincial Police stopped the vehicle Oct. 19 at 2:50 a.m. in Grenfell Township. Police said the vehicle was clocked driving 141km/h in a 90km/h zone.

“Officers detected a strong odour of cannabis while speaking with the driver, which led to a search of the motor vehicle,” the OPP said in a news release Dec. 2.

Heroin, fentanyl, ketamine, coke

“As a result of the search, officers seized suspected cocaine, heroin, ketamine, and fentanyl with a street value of over $46,700.”

Also seized were 42 SIM cards, seven checkbooks, $2,500 in cash, brass knuckles and $1,980 in U.S. currency.

The 23-year-old driver from Brampton has been charged with stunt driving, driving with cannabis in open baggage, drug trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime and a weapons offence.

Also charged were a 22-year-old from Etobicoke and a 22-year-old from Guelph, who also face trafficking, possession and weapons charges. The Guelph suspect was also charged with two counts of violating release conditions. They have a court date of Dec. 2.

The other two accused are scheduled to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on Feb. 26.
