Suspect charged with attempted murder in Iroquois Falls

One person has been charged with attempted murder following an investigation involving a firearm in Iroquois Falls.

Ontario Provincial Police responded Jan. 5 around 9 a.m. to a report of a gun being fired at a residence on Campion Street.

“No physical injuries were reported as a result of the discharged firearm,” police said in a news release Wednesday.

The suspect in the case fled the scene and ended up at a residence on Big Nellie Lake Road. Multiple police units arrived and negotiated a peaceful surrender.

Numerous charges

A 40-year-old has been charged with attempted murder using a firearm, discharging a firearm with intent, pointing a gun, assault, criminal harassment, utter threats, two counts of mischief under $5,000, break and enter and other weapons-related charges.

The accused remains in custody pending a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Iroquois Falls.

“The name of the accused is not being released to protect the identity of the victim,” police said.

“The South Porcupine crime unit is continuing the investigation under the direction of the OPP criminal investigation branch.”
