Sudbury police charge two with drug trafficking in the downtown area

A man and a woman have been charged with trafficking fentanyl after drug enforcement unit officers in Greater Sudbury spotted suspicious activity at an address on Frood Road.

The pair was later charged after a small amount of drugs and cash were found in the residence.

“Street-level drug trafficking poses a significant threat to the safety, security and well-being of our community,” Sudbury police said in a news release Tuesday.

On Aug. 22, officers “observed traffic and behaviour consistent with drug trafficking from an address on Frood Road,” police said.

Plain clothes officers

“Plain clothes officers conducted surveillance that confirmed both open drug use and trafficking.”

Police obtained a search warrant and raided the residence.

“Inside, police located over $2,000 cash, over $1,200 worth of illicit drugs and ammunition,” the release said.

A 52-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman have been charged with trafficking fentanyl, cocaine and hydromorphone. Other charges include possessing ammunition and possession of property obtained by crime.

“Both individuals were released on conditions pending future court appearances,” police said.

Police said they are focused on combating crime downtown.

“Through their regular foot and bike patrols, officers build trust with residents and businesses, respond to crimes in progress and address individuals who pose an elevated risk to public safety through warrant apprehension and bail compliance,” the release said.

“We continue to take a coordinated, intelligence-led approach to drug enforcement, combining proactive investigations, community engagement and strong collaborative partnerships.”
