Police say Sudbury man robbed 15 businesses in a month

A 58-year-old man from Greater Sudbury is facing more than a dozen charges related to commercial break-and-enters that occurred in New Sudbury and the South End in the last month.

The first robbery took place July 23 and the last Aug. 27, Sudbury police said in a news release Friday. The businesses were robbed of at least a few thousand dollars, police spokesperson Kaitlyn Dunn said in an email.

“These incidents primarily occurred in New Sudbury and the South End, where the individual responsible used an object to smash a window of the business to gain access to the cash register and steal money from the till,” police said in a news release Friday.

The break, enter and robbery unit concluded its investigation with the arrest of the suspect Aug. 28. He was arrested while driving on Notre Dame Avenue.

He is charged with 15 counts of break-and-enter offences, as well as two counts of driving while suspended.

He was held in jail overnight and appeared in bail court Friday and was remanded into custody until Sept. 3.
