A Highway 17 traffic stop on Monday, just after 4:30 p.m., resulted in one driver being charged with stunt driving. Ontario Provincial Police were performing traffic enforcement measures when officers stopped what they called “a vehicle traveling greater than the posted speed limit” on highway within Greater Sudbury. Police said the vehicle was travelling 153 kilometres per hour in a posted 90 km/h zone. As a result of the investigation, the driver, a 20-year-old from Wahnapitae, was charged with stunt driving for the excessive speed. In addition to the charges, the motorist’s driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days. The accused is scheduled to appear in court in Sudbury on Aug. 4.
