Speeding novice driver in northern Ont. charged with impaired

Ontario Provincial Police in Temiskaming Shores stopped the woman’s vehicle around 2 a.m. for a traffic violation on Armstrong Street North.

Ontario Provincial Police charged a 26-year-old driver with several offences following a traffic stop in Temiskaming Shores on Boxing Day.

Police stopped the woman’s vehicle around 2 a.m. for a traffic violation on Armstrong Street North.

“During the interaction with the driver, officers suspected the driver had consumed alcohol,” police said in a news release Friday.

The driver failed a roadside test and was arrested and taken to the Temiskaming Shores OPP detachment for further testing.

Charges include impaired driving, being a novice driver with any amount of alcohol in the bloodstream and speeding.

Her driver’s licence was automatically suspended for 90 days and the vehicle has been impounded for a week. She was released with a future court date.

“The OPP reminds motorists that impaired driving is a serious criminal offence and continues to put lives at risk on Ontario roadways,” police said.
