Snowmobile stolen from North Bay hotel parking lot, police release video of suspect

North Bay police seek suspect who stole orange Arctic Cat snowmobile from a local parking lot. He was last seen heading towards Hwy 11/17.

The North Bay Police Service is investigating the theft of a snowmobile from a hotel parking lot early Monday morning and has now released new surveillance video in an effort to identify a suspect.

Police said the theft occurred in the Seymour Street area at about 1:50 a.m. on Feb. 2.

Vehicle, suspect descriptions

In an update Wednesday, police released a more detailed suspect description and surveillance video.

The suspect is now described as having a medium build and was seen wearing a black jacket with a small white logo on the left chest, a white hoodie, black pants and black rubber or large winter boots.

The suspect was also carrying a red backpack with a large white logo.

“The suspect was last seen travelling westbound on Seymour Street toward the Hwy 11/17 intersection,” police said in Wednesday’s update.

The stolen snowmobile is described as an Arctic Cat Riot. It is orange with blue decals and bears the provincial plate 3AT298.

“These vehicles are often targeted because they’re valuable and easy to hide,” said Corrente in a news release.

The inspector advised other owners to take precautions.

“We encourage all owners to take security steps. If you need to store your snowmobile outside, use a strong lock through the skis and park in a well-lit area that is visible to surveillance cameras,” said Corrente.

Appeal for information

“Public assistance can make a meaningful difference in this investigation,” said police.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to call the North Bay Police non-emergency line at 705-472-1234 or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously. Police are also requesting that anyone with dash camera or other video footage from the area around the time of the incident review their recordings and contact police if relevant video is found.
