Elk Island National Park east of Edmonton was closed following Monday’s storm. The storm flooded parts of the park, making some roadways impassable, and downed trees, a spokesperson told CTV News Edmonton. “Every effort is being made to re-open the park to visitors as soon as possible. Parks Canada continues to clear downed trees, fix damaged fencing, clean up debris throughout the park, and assess a damaged culvert on the parkway. Once a full assessment of the damage throughout the park is completed, a re-opening schedule will be determined.” They did not provide a timeline for reopening. The spokesperson confirmed the park’s wildlife were unaffected. The park received 34 millimetres of rain on Monday. Edmonton is about 20 millimetres away from setting the record for the wettest July, and month, on record.
