A 21-year-old man from Brampton will be in court Friday for a plea and sentencing hearing in connection with a May 2024 incident involving North Bay police.

Sahibjot Singh was charged with 19 offences – including attempted murder -- following the May 31 incident last year that started when an automatic licence plate reader alerted police to a stolen vehicle.

“While attempting to stop the vehicle, the accused fled, reappeared at a parking lot, provided false identification, and drove toward the officer, striking and pinning him between vehicles,” North Bay police said in a news release Wednesday.

“The officer ended up on the ground and the accused then drove toward the officer, who was able to escape. The accused then collided with a police cruiser and another vehicle several times before fleeing again. The vehicle was subsequently located, and after a brief foot pursuit, the accused was arrested, found impaired by drugs and taken into custody.”

The officer involved in the incident was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

At the time of his arrest, Singh was out on a release order from Brampton for several crimes, including flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, mischief and possession of property obtained by crime.

On Friday, police said he’ll be in the Plouffe Street courthouse to submit his plea and be sentenced. It’s unclear exactly what he’ll be pleading to, however.
