Police in West Vancouver, B.C., are investigating a suspected homicide early Wednesday morning. A statement from the West Vancouver Police Department says officers responded shortly after midnight to reports of an altercation at a residence in the Squamish Nation village of X̱wemelch’stn, near the Lions Gate Bridge. One man was pronounced dead at the scene “despite the efforts of first responders” after suffering injuries in the incident, police said. A second man was later arrested by the Vancouver Police Department. “There is no ongoing risk to public safety,” the statement said. The Lower Mainland’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has taken conduct of the case. In a statement Thursday, the homicide team said the 43-year-old victim and the 35-year-old suspect are related to one another. “There are no outstanding suspects and no ongoing risk to the public,” IHIT spokesperson Sgt. Freda Fong said. “Our thoughts remain with the victim’s loved ones and the community as this investigation progresses.” Anyone with information related to the death is asked to contact homicide investigators at 1-877-551-4448.
