Second person dies of injuries in West Nipissing crash

Fatal crash in Sturgeon Falls kills 1, sends 4 to hospital

A 15-year-old girl has died from injuries she received from a Jan. 24 collision in West Nipissing, police said Thursday.

Ontario Provincial Police are urging members of the public not to post videos from the scene online and to “consider the impact on those involved and the investigation.”

The teen is the second person killed in the two-vehicle crash, which took place at 11:40 p.m. on Nipissing Street in West Nipissing.

“A passenger in one vehicle, a 62-year-old female from Sudbury, was pronounced deceased,” the OPP said in a news release Jan. 29.

“Two other occupants of the vehicle reported minor injuries. Three occupants of the second vehicle were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries. A fourth occupant of the second vehicle, a 15-year-old female from West Nipissing, sustained life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced deceased at hospital.”

Impact on the families

Rather than posting videos online, the OPP are urging residents to submit any relevant footage to them.

“We understand the public’s interest and ask members of the public to consider the impact on the victims of this collision and their families before sharing or reposting,” police said.

“Speculation and the circulation of such content can cause additional harm and may interfere with the integrity of the investigation.”

Police have already received some videos “and are actively working to gather evidence, confirm details, and ensure the investigation remains objective and comprehensive,” the release said.

“We thank the community for their patience and understanding as this process continues.”
