A 37-year-old woman has been charged by police in Sault Ste. Marie with theft, drug possession and escaping police custody, among other offences. The woman was first arrested May 21 and charged with theft, but was charged with two more counts May 22. “After their initial arrest … further investigation revealed the accused had stolen from businesses on two additional occasions,” police said. “The accused was later granted bail.” Officers from the bail compliance unit saw the woman May 27 violating the conditions of her release order on Trunk Road and arrested her. Quickly arrested after escaping “After their arrest, the accused continued physically resisting officers and escaped custody,” police said. “The accused was located shortly thereafter and arrested again. A search of the accused located a small quantity of suspected cocaine.” The new charges include escaping police custody, resisting police, cocaine possession and two counts of violating a release order. She was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
