Sault Ste. Marie police investigate homicide on Poplar Avenue

An incident on Poplar Avenue late Saturday evening is now being investigated as a homicide by Sault Ste. Marie police.

Police responded to a 911 call around 9 p.m. on Sept. 13, after receiving a report of an injured person at a residence in the 100 block of Poplar Avenue.

“Officers responded and found a victim suffering from life-threatening injuries,” said the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service in a news release Sunday morning.

The victim was transported to hospital but later “succumbed” to their injuries.

Police have not released any identifying details about the victim or the circumstances of their death.

Police seek public assistance

Detectives have taken over the case and the area around the residence remains an active crime scene.

“The scene has been secured and officers remain on scene as the investigation is ongoing,” said police.

Police are appealing to the public for information. They are specifically asking community members who live in the area, or who were in the vicinity between 8:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, to review any surveillance or dash cam footage they may have.
