Sault resident charged in historical intimate partner violence

Ontario Provincial Police have charged one individual following an investigation into historical intimate partner violence spanning several years and multiple locations in northern Ontario.

The incidents under investigation are alleged to have occurred in Netmizaaggamig Nishnaabeg, also known as Pic Mobert First Nation, and the Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.

A 42-year-old individual from Sault Ste. Marie is charged with four counts of assault, two counts of sexual assault, one count of dangerous operation causing bodily harm and two counts of mischief.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court in Sault Ste. Marie at a later date.

“In order to protect the identity of the victim, the name of the accused will not be released,” OPP said in a news release Wednesday.

An ongoing investigation

Authorities have indicated that the investigation remains ongoing and are asking anyone with information to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stopper anonymously.
