A 44-year-old man is facing multiple charges after police in Sault Ste. Marie say he brandished a knife and barricaded himself inside a garage last week. Police said officers were called to the 100 block of Railroad Avenue around 10 p.m. on Aug. 6 following a report of a person with a weapon. “An investigation revealed the accused had brandished a knife at a victim known to them while making verbal threats,” the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said in a news release. Emergency services respond “Officers were dispatched to the scene, where the accused had barricaded themself inside a garage and refused to come out,” police said. The Emergency Services Unit led the operation, with support from the canine unit, investigation services and patrol officers. Police contained the area around the garage and obtained a search warrant to gain entry. Around 5 a.m. on Aug. 7, police said officers gained entry into the garage and took the suspect into custody. No physical injuries were reported as a result of the incident. Multiple charges The man was charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order. The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
