Public health warns of infection control lapse at northern Ontario nail salon

Northeastern Public Health is advising clients of a nail salon in Haileybury, Ont., that they may have been exposed to improperly disinfected equipment over a 21-month period.

The public health unit said the lapse occurred at Just Lovely between Nov. 23, 2023, and Aug. 20, 2025. The agency stated the risk to clients is low but recommends those who received manicure or pedicure services during that time consult a healthcare professional.

Risk deemed low, no known infections

“The risk of infection is low, and Northeastern Public Health is not aware of any cases of infection associated with this lapse,” said Suzanne Lajoie, the manager of environmental health at the health unit.

The public health investigation resulted in a closure order being issued on Aug. 20.

Health officials said the business owner co-operated fully to complete the necessary steps to resolve the situation and the salon was permitted to reopen on Aug. 25.

Lajoie noted that while facilities are inspected regularly, those visits only provide a snapshot in time. She encouraged the public to reach out with any concerns.
