Province provides $2M for health care in North Bay and area

Hospitals in North Bay and Mattawa are receiving more than $2 million for infrastructure upgrades from the province.

Provincial funding of more than $2 million will help fund infrastructure work mainly at the North Bay Regional Health Centre.

In a news release Tuesday, Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli the money will help create “a safer, more comfortable space for people and their families connecting to care and services within our local hospitals.”

“Our government has been taking action and making record investments to protect Ontario’s health-care system, ensuring patients and families can more easily connect to convenient care, close to home,” Fedeli said in the release.

In total, North Bay’s hospital will receive $1,888,085 for the 2025-26 budget year and $133,476 for 2026-2027.

In addition, $57,960 will go to the Mattawa General Hospital for 2025-26.

The cash will help the hospitals “address their urgent infrastructure needs, including upgrading or replacing roofs, windows, security systems, fire alarms and emergency generators,” the news release said.

“This year, the Ontario government increased funding for these programs by 12.3 per cent.”

“This support is essential to maintaining our aging infrastructure at our King Street location in North Bay and Kirkwood location in Sudbury,” Paul Heinrich, president and CEO of North Bay Regional Health Centre, said in the release.

“These sites play a vital role in caring for people across our district who rely on mental health and addiction services and patients living with some of the most complex behavioural health needs in the northeast region.”
