One dead, one in hospital after house fire in Port Loring

An 80-year-old woman is dead and a second person was taken to hospital after a house fire in Port Loring, south of North Bay, on Monday morning.

The Argyle Fire Department was called to the home on Lovers Lane along with North Bay Ambulance and Ontario Provincial Police around 7:15 a.m. Feb. 17, police said in a news release Wednesday.

“An 80-year-old resident of Port Loring was pronounced deceased at the scene,” OPP said, adding the body has been sent to Sudbury to undergo an autopsy.

“A second individual was transported to hospital by ambulance.”

OPP Const. Kyler Brouwer confirmed the person who died was a female.

“There were no reported injuries to the person that made it out,” he said.

An investigation into the fire is underway between OPP forensic identification service and the Office of the Fire Marshal, with the help of the chief coroner and forensic pathology service.

“At this time, foul play is not suspected,” police said.

No word on the cause of the fire.
