Northern Ont. woman claims $1M prize in Encore draw

A New Liskeard woman is celebrating a $1 million lottery win. Marsha Jane Desjardins matched all seven Encore numbers in a Sept. 3 draw.

Saying “yes” to Encore paid off for one northern Ontario woman last month.

Marsha Jane Desjardins of New Liskeard matched all seven Encore numbers in exact order in the Sept. 3 Ontario 49 draw to win $1,000,000.

Encore offers 22 ways to win and can be played in conjunction with most lottery draw games for an extra $1. There are two Encore draws every day.

Desjardins, a 71-year-old retiree, told OLG officials, while at the prize centre in Toronto, that she has been a loyal lottery player for more than 30 years and was shocked to discover her big win when checking her tickets at a local store.

“I began to shake and I was holding back tears,” she said.

“It took everything in me not to cry. It still doesn’t feel real.”

Desjardins said she only shared the news about her windfall with a few people who are close to her.

“They were beyond happy for me,” she added.

Desjardins said she plans to invest her winnings.

The winning ticket was purchased at Esso/Husky Market on Highway 11 North in New Liskeard, OLG confirmed.
