Northern Ont. police find empty alcohol cans near crashed pickup truck

A 25-year-old Elliot Lake man has been charged with impaired and other offences following a crash involving a pickup truck on Milliken Mine Road near Elliot Lake.

Ontario Provincial Police responded around 5:25 p.m. on April 4 and discovered the pickup lying on its side in a ditch.

“Empty alcohol cans were scattered on the road and ditch, and the driver emanated a strong odour of alcoholic beverage on his breath,” police said in a news release April 6.

“He was assessed by paramedics and transported to hospital with minor injuries, where he was later arrested. The pickup truck was also later towed and impounded.”

Insecure load

The Elliot Lake man was charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving and driving with an insecure load.

He’s scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on May 14.

“The OPP reminds motorists that no amount of alcohol or drug is acceptable to consume and drive,” the release said.

“Report impaired drivers.”
