North Bay woman charged with impaired after OPP find parked vehicle with smoke inside

A 42-year-old woman is facing multiple charges after police discovered her slumped over inside a parked vehicle with smoke coming from the car last weekend.

An Ontario Provincial Police officer on patrol observed smoke emanating from inside the parked vehicle on Fraser Street in North Bay at about 2:40 p.m. on Feb. 15.

Police said that the officer found the driver slouched over inside.

“Officers approached and observed cannabis joints in the vehicle,” OPP said in a news release.

“The items were seized.”

The driver was taken into custody and transported to the North Bay OPP detachment for further testing.

“The OPP remains committed to ensuring our roads are safe from drug-impaired and alcohol-impaired drivers,” police said.

As a result of the investigation, the motorist, a local woman, has been charged with failing to surrender an insurance card, driving a motor vehicle without a validated plate and having care and control of a vehicle with cannabis readily available along with two impaired driving offences.

In addition to the charges, the woman also received a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

She was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on March 17, 2026.
