New mural unveiled at Sudbury hospital’s outpatient centre

A new mural titled Change has been unveiled at the Sudbury Outpatient Centre of Health Sciences North, created by students and faculty from Cambrian College‘s Design and Visual Arts program.

The 18-square-metre mural spans two walls in the centre’s front entrance, depicting a natural northern Canadian landscape. It features Atlantic salmon, mallard ducks, and a flowing river, symbolizing seasonal transitions and continuous movement.

“We are so pleased to collaborate with partners in the community annually to create these murals,” said Johanna Westby, a professor in the program.

“This year’s project was an opportunity to enhance the space with calm, inviting colours and a connection to the theme ‘Change.’”

Samantha Shadd, a clinical manager at the outpatient centre, which hosts many clincis and services, praised the contribution.

“We really appreciate this generous gift from Cambrian College,” she said.

“The mural brightens our space, inspires staff, and provides a calming environment for patients and families.”

The piece, titled ‘Change,’ is the latest in a series of community murals by the college, with others on display at Tom Davies Square, Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School, and Science North.
