Man tampered with apartment door lock, violated court order: Sault police

A 66-year-old local man has been charged after police in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., say he repeatedly attended a multi-unit residential building in violation of a court order.

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service’s Division 2 Unit arrested the accused on May 13, after allegedly seeing him exit a building in the 600 block of Wellington Street East.

“An investigation revealed the accused violated a condition of their undertaking by attending a multi-unit residential building in the 600 block of Wellington Street East on multiple occasions between May 10-13,” police said in a news release.

“On two of these occasions, the accused also tampered with a secure door to prevent it from latching and locking.”

The man has been charged with two counts of mischief and eight counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 10.

This comes following repeated reports of vandalism to residential complexes in the same block in both March and April.
