Man charged with impaired, other offences following Sudbury crash

A 56-year-old man has been charged after a collision Saturday on Big Nickel Mine Road on Saturday.

The incident began when several calls to 911 reported a vehicle driving erratically on MR35.

“Communicators were also advised that the vehicle was involved in a collision where the driver failed to remain,” Sudbury police spokesperson Kaitlyn Dunn said in an email Monday.

“Officers located the vehicle at the intersection of Elm Street at Big Nickel Mine Road where a traffic stop was conducted.”

Three times above the legal limit

Police spoke with the driver, who appeared to be impaired, and found he was driving without insurance.

“The individual was placed under arrest for impaired operation and was searched incident to arrest where officers located a bottle of alcohol,” Dunn said.

“The individual was transported to headquarters where he blew over three times over the legal limit.”

The man has been charged with numerous offences, including impaired driving, failing to remain at the scene of a collision, careless driving and driving without insurance.

He was released with a court date of Dec. 24.

Also Saturday, a single-vehicle crash on Big Nickel Mine Road sent four people to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The road was closed for just under an hour.
