GTA driver charged with stunt driving past Sudbury OPP detachment

A 29-year-old driver from Mississauga tried to convince a Sudbury Ontario Provincial Police officer to give them a break when stopped for driving 87 km/h faster than the speed limit.

Police stopped the driver Feb. 11 for travelling 177 km/h in a 90 km/h zone -- while passing by the Sudbury OPP detachment on Highway 69.

“The 29-year-old driver from Mississauga told the officer they ‘hit the brakes’ when they noticed the cruiser,” police said in a social media post.

“(The OPP) officer explained to a driver that when you’re travelling 87 km/h over the posted speed limit, there’s no ‘please’ for a break or a warning.”

The driver was charged with stunt driving and their licence was suspended for 30 days and the vehicle was impounded for two weeks.

“Brake pedal or not – 87 km/h over is still stunt driving,” the OPP said.
