N.B. man accused of sexually assaulting nursing home residents makes first court appearance

A man accused of sexually assaulting more than a dozen people at a Saint John seniors home appeared in court.

A 69-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting more than a dozen people at a seniors care home in Saint John, N.B., between late 2025 and early 2026 has made his first court appearance.

Kevin McGrath is facing 14 charges of sexual assault. He appeared in Saint John court Tuesday morning, where the judge was informed that McGrath has applied for legal aid.

The matter was adjourned for election, with the accused due back in court the morning of June 23.

The courtroom was filled with the presumed families of McGrath’s alleged victims. They, along with Loch Lomond Villa CEO Ashley King, declined to speak with reporters after the court proceedings.

The Saint John Police Force arrested McGrath on March 3. He is accused of sexually assaulting 15 people at the seniors care facility between Dec. 26, 2025 and Jan. 19.

Only 14 charges were presented in court on Tuesday, none of which have been tested.

Saint John Police Force Sgt. Shawna Fowler previously told CTV News Atlantic the accused was a family member of a resident at the nursing home.

Police say they launched an investigation after receiving information about possible offences on Jan. 21.

Loch Lomond Villa is a 100-bed long term care facility in Saint John spread across four resident houses.

The New Brunswick government has said it will review safety and security procedures at nursing homes across the province in response to the allegations.
