Freezing rain, snow expected in northeastern Ont. Tuesday

Environment Canada says parts of the northeast could receive freezing rain Tuesday, while snow is expected in the Timmins area.

Sudbury and North Bay could receive periods of freezing rain or freezing drizzle throughout the day into the evening, according to a weather statement.

“Patchy freezing drizzle is possible this morning before a more organized system moves in this afternoon,” the statement said.

“Temperatures will hover near the freezing mark, and thus some areas could receive freezing rain while others receive rain or snow.”

That could make roads icy and slippery, so motorists should allow extra time to get to their destination.

In Timmins, snowfall amounts of five to eight cm are possible, with reduced visibility in snow, beginning this morning and continuing through this evening.

“Travel may be affected today, Environment Canada said.

“Untreated roads may become icy and slippery. Motorists should allow extra time to get to their destination.”
