For the third time in less than two years, Sudbury police arrest man for weapons offences

A 44-year-old man from Greater Sudbury is facing drug and weapons charges, the third time since June 2024 that he has been arrested for the same offences.

He was taken into custody March 24 following an investigation by the drug enforcement unit into drug trafficking in Sudbury.

“Based on the investigation, members of the emergency response unit and K9 unit executed two Controlled Drugs and Substances Act warrants at a detached structure and an apartment located on King Street,” police said in a news release March 25.

“Two people were located and arrested for drug-related offences.”

A search of those arrested and the apartment and structure uncovered a handgun with an extended magazine, several bullets, a small amount of crack cocaine and $2,871 in cash.

Drug trafficking, weapons offences

While one person was released unconditionally, police said the 44-year-old man was charged with seven counts of possessing a firearm while prohibited, among several other weapons offences, drug trafficking, possession of the proceeds of crime under $5,000 and failing to comply with a release order.

He was held in custody ahead of a bail hearing scheduled for March 25.

“Since June 2024, (Sudbury police) have arrested and charged (the man) on three separate occasions for drug and firearm-related offences,” police said.
